The Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center Program
In addition to the various means of support The Kirkland Group provides to the districts it serves, starting in 2020 TKG began administering The Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center Program in the East Tallahatchie Consolidated School District and the MS Achievement School District. “This program supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools. The program helps students meet state and local academic standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children.” - U. S. Department of Education.

Since the inception of these TKG afterschool programs, the scholars who take part in them have demonstrated marked growth both scholastically and developmentally through the academic tutoring, counseling sessions, financial literacy programs, and other enrichment activities they receive. Participation in the 21st CCLC program and the thoughtful implementation of its precepts is another way that The Kirkland Group strives to ensure that “Students Come First!”
